Ring of Honor
The Foundation awards the Eduard Rhein Ring of Honor for Outstanding work which has been accomplished over a long period of years in an area related to the promotion of scientific research and of learning, the arts, and culture at home and abroad. The number of living bearers of these rings is limited to ten.
Univ.-Prof. Prof. h.c. Prof. cs. Dr. rer. nat. Dr. h.c. Ulrich Walter
Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Ulrich Walter has been awarded the Eduard Rhein Foundation’s Ring of Honor for his outstanding achievements in the field of space science and his many years of communicating this to a wide audience. We are honoring him in particular for the fact that, as an astronaut and holder of the Chair of Space Technology at the Technical University of Munich, he has tirelessly put his qualifications and creative energy at the service of the idea of awakening a fascination for scientific and technical knowledge in society.

For outstanding achievements in human spaceflight and for providing comprehensive knowledge transfer to subsequent generations. Through all her endeavors, she contributed a lot to deepening of relations between Russia and various countries outside of the former Soviet Union.

We honor Hubert Markl, a former President of, both, the German Research Foundation and of the Max Planck Society, for his outstanding achievements. His various talents, excellent qualifications and his seemingly infinite energy have been a permanent source of inspiration and new ideas. Numerous areas of science and public life have greatly benefited from his creativity and hard work. Hubert Markl not only rendered invaluable services to the German scientific community but also spent most of his career to serve his country and its citizens.
